SvFJ Heights Arena

The project task envisages the construction of a new playground on the north side of the existing school building in Sv. Filip and Jakov, and thus the transformation of the existing context by presenting new contents and programs. Although the school playground is a space originally intended for schoolchildren, at the same time it can be included in the life of the city, and in the era of online learning and various restrictions, it can become a new place for games, gatherings and socializing.

The location is characterized by a height difference of 5 meters  in the northeast-southwest direction. The playground will include a mini-soccer and handball court with a volleyball court and two basketball courts. Then, a running track, a long jump runway with a pit, and a training ground with equipment. Precisely because of the characteristics of the terrain, it is proposed to divide the mentioned contents into 3 plateaus at different heights, which gradually overcome the existing height difference of the terrain.

In order to reduce the visual impact of the retaining walls, stands are formed, which introduce an element of greenery to the new playground with their design. Such informal tribunes become a place for rest, socializing and a space for watching sports activities, and at the same time they can become a place for various events, performances, outdoor classes and the like. As an element of defining the space, horizontal graphics are also used, where, in addition to the lines and dimensions of the sports fields, a system of intermediate spaces is created for practicing individual sports.

What was once an unused area of ​​school land now plays a key role in attracting and retaining students in school spaces, and encouraging meaningful engagement, conversation and participation.
